Ffern, an independent natural perfume brand, collaborated with Magical Mushroom Company® to create a one-of-a-kind mycelium desk for their flagship store in London.
Known for their seasonal fragrances and commitment to sustainability, Ffern sought a centrepiece for their store that reflected their values. The desk was crafted using agricultural byproducts bound with mycelium, creating a fully biodegradable structure.

The Problem
NO OPTIONS FOR A STRIKING & FUNCTIONAL, BIODEGRADABLE DESK
As Ffern transitioned from an online platform to a physical store, they needed a statement piece that embodied their environmental values.
Traditional materials like plastic or metal would not align with their mission, and even sustainably sourced wood didn’t fully capture their innovative spirit.
The challenge was to create a functional, visually striking desk that was biodegradable and environmentally conscious.
The Solution
TO DESIGN AND GROW A UNIQUE, BESPOKE DESK
Magical Mushroom Company® designed and grew the desk using their MycoComposite material, a biodegradable solution developed from mycelium and agricultural waste.
The desk was grown into shape, ensuring minimal waste and a seamless design. Mycelium’s natural strength provided the durability needed for everyday use, while its biodegradable nature ensured the desk aligned with Ffern’s sustainability goals.
This innovative process resulted in a visually unique and functional piece, perfectly complementing Ffern’s store design.
