The Problem
AVAILABILITY OF ECO-FRIENDLY, THERMALLY INSULATED PACKAGING
Traditional packaging materials like plastic and polystyrene failed to align with Ice Cream Union’s commitment to environmental responsibility.
The challenge was to find a material that provided the same level of thermal insulation as polystyrene while being biodegradable and eco-friendly.
Ice Cream Union needed a solution that would uphold the quality of their ice cream while reducing their environmental impact.
The Solution
BESPOKE TAKE-HOME TUBS MADE FROM MUSHROOM® PACKAGING
Magical Mushroom Company® collaborated with Ice Cream Union to develop bespoke take-home tubs made from Mushroom® Packaging.
The packaging was crafted using mycelium, the root structure of mushrooms, combined with agricultural feedstock, resulting in a material that is durable, thermally efficient, and fully biodegradable within 40 days.
This innovative packaging ensured that Ice Cream Union’s ice creams stayed cool during delivery, providing both functionality and sustainability.
