THE PROBLEM
Red Bank Coffee had developed a beautiful glass jar to showcase its rare coffees. However, many jars were being damaged in transit.
Readily available packaging options were either too expensive, unsustainable, or did not complement the premium look and feel of the jars.
The challenge was to create cost-effective, high-performance packaging that aligned with Red Bank’s sustainability mission while maintaining the quality experience expected by its customers.
THE SOLUTION
Magical Mushroom Company® crafted bespoke Mushroom® Packaging to protect Red Bank’s premium glass jars.
The packaging was grown from upcycled agricultural waste combined with mycelium, providing a biodegradable alternative to fossil fuel-based polymers.
Rigorous testing at MMC’s Mushroom 2 facility in Attenborough—including vibration, edge-crush, and drop tests—ensured the packaging could withstand transit without compromising the jars.
THE RESULT
Red Bank Coffee successfully transitioned to a sustainable, plastic-free packaging solution that eliminated transit damage and protected their premium glass jars.
Customers appreciated the look and feel of the mycelium packaging, reinforcing Red Bank’s commitment to sustainability from crop to cup.
