FUNGI FORMS EXHIBITION
DARE, LVMH’s entrepreneurship program, collaborated with Stella McCartney and Magical Mushroom Company® to create custom mycelium plinths for the Fungi Forms exhibition at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh.
These plinths were designed to display Stella McCartney’s mycelium leather bags, combining eco-conscious materials with luxury design. Crafted from mycelium and hemp, the plinths reflect a shared commitment to sustainability and innovation.
The collaboration showcases how sustainable materials like mycelium can bridge the gap between high-end fashion and environmental responsibility, setting a new standard for eco-luxury.

The Problem
SOME TRADITIONAL PLINTHS DON'T MEET ENVIRONMENTAL STANDARDS
Stella McCartney needed a sustainable display solution that aligned with the brand’s ethos and LVMH’s commitment to environmental innovation.
Traditional materials, such as plastic and metal, failed to meet the aesthetic and ecological standards required for the exhibition.
The challenge was to design plinths that were visually striking, lightweight, and biodegradable, while maintaining the high quality associated with Stella McCartney and LVMH.
The Solution
LIGHTWEIGHT, DURABLE AND BESPOKE BIODEGRADABLE MYCELIUM PLINTHS
Magical Mushroom Company® developed bespoke mycelium plinths for the Fungi Forms exhibition. Using a combination of responsibly sourced hemp and mycelium, the plinths were lightweight, durable, and fully biodegradable.
The materials were grown in moulds, ensuring precision and consistency in design. Mycelium’s carbon-sequestering properties enhanced the sustainability impact, while its natural texture complemented the exhibition’s focus on tidal ecosystems.
The plinths provided the perfect foundation for showcasing Stella McCartney’s mycelium leather bags, reflecting the beauty of nature through cutting-edge biomaterials.
