SUSTAINABLE INTERIORS: HOUSE OF HACKNEY CREATES MYCELIUM CEILING ROSE
RESPONSIBLE HOME DECOR
House of Hackney, a luxury British interiors, fashion, and lifestyle brand, is renowned for its unique designs and dedication to sustainability. Committed to reimagining traditional home decor with an eco-friendly approach, the brand introduced the Mycelium Rose—a beautifully crafted ceiling rose made entirely from biodegradable materials.
This innovative product combines timeless design with the power of fungi, showcasing how heritage craftsmanship and sustainable materials can shape the future of interiors.
“THE MYCELIUM ROSE CELEBRATES FUNGI AND THEIR INCREDIBLE POTENTIAL.”
THE PROBLEM
CREATING A CEILING ROSE FROM SUSTAINABLE, BIODEGRADABLE MATERIALS
Traditional ceiling roses are often crafted from materials that harm the environment, conflicting with the increasing demand for sustainable home decor.
House of Hackney sought a solution that would honour the traditional craftsmanship associated with ceiling roses while aligning with their commitment to sustainability and ecological responsibility.
The challenge was to create a product that maintained the brand’s luxurious aesthetic while using innovative materials that support a sustainable future.
THE SOLUTION
CREATE A MOULD FROM THEIR DESIRED DESIGN, TO GROW THE ROSE INTO A FINAL PRODUCT
House of Hackney partnered with heritage craftspeople at Wood Carving London and Magical Mushroom Company® to create the Mycelium Rose, crafted from 100% biodegradable mycelium.
The process begins with wood chips and hemp recycled from waste products, which are combined with mycelium mushroom spores to form a sustainable substrate. This material is moulded into intricate designs before being baked to halt growth, resulting in a durable and elegant ceiling rose made entirely from natural materials.
This innovative approach merges traditional artistry with cutting-edge sustainability practices, redefining home decor for the modern age.
THE RESULT
A CEILING ROSE THAT PROVIDES ELEGANCE AND QUALITY, USING PLANT BASED MATERIALS
The Mycelium Rose is a striking example of how sustainable materials can elevate home decor without compromising on beauty or quality.
Each piece sold helps House of Hackney purchase and protect 35 square metres of forest through their partnership with the World Land Trust, contributing to the preservation of vital ecosystems and threatened habitats.
The Mycelium Rose exemplifies House of Hackney’s dedication to sustainability, innovation, and timeless design, serving as both a functional home accessory and a celebration of fungi’s incredible potential.
“The Mycelium Rose is not only a beautiful and functional piece of home decor but also a celebration of fungi and their incredible potential.
Each piece represents our commitment to sustainability, timeless design, and protecting the planet acre by acre.”
