The company is partnering with funeral directors across the UK to offer a green alternative to traditional urns, giving people a novel way to honour loved ones while supporting reforestation efforts.

THE PROBLEM
A SUSTAINABLE ALTERNATIVE THAT WOULD REDUCE THE ENVIRONMENTAL FOOTPRINT OF TRADITIONAL PRACTICES
The environmental impact of traditional burial and cremation practices is immense, with millions of trees cut down and burned each year to honour the departed.
In the UK alone, 11,000 trees would need to be planted daily to offset the carbon emissions from cremations, compounded by the waste and pollution caused by producing urns and coffins.
Edenn® needed a sustainable alternative that would reduce the environmental footprint of traditional practices while creating a meaningful, green legacy for families.
THE SOLUTION
COMBINING MYCELIUM WITH RECYCLED AGRICULTURAL WASTE, GROWN IN BESPOKE URN MOULDS
Magical Mushroom Company® helped Edenn® develop their tree-bearing urn using mycelium, the root structure of fungi, as a sustainable alternative to petroleum-based materials.
At MMC’s Esher plant, mycelium was combined with recycled agricultural waste in bespoke moulds to create the urns. This process eliminated the need for industrial processing, chemicals, and harmful emissions, resulting in a fully biodegradable and environmentally friendly product.
The resulting urns are durable and versatile, designed to remain intact when stored at home or to biodegrade naturally when planted to support tree growth.
