SUSTAINABLE COLLABORATION: MAGICAL MUSHROOM COMPANY® AND RE-RIGHT DESIGN AT THE HEAT FESTIVAL
TIDAL-INSPIRED SCULPTURE
THE HEAT Festival, hosted by VOYAGERS, is an annual climate-tech event held at the Harwell Science Campus in Oxfordshire. This global gathering brings together impact-driven innovators, climate-tech specialists, and environmental advocates to tackle today’s most pressing challenges through collaboration and innovation.
For the 2024 festival, Magical Mushroom Company® teamed up with Re-Right Design to create a biodegradable, tidal-inspired sculpture that fostered conversation and connection among attendees. This installation highlighted the potential of sustainable materials in driving climate solutions while celebrating the festival’s ethos of environmental impact and innovation.

THE PROBLEM
A PARTNER WITH EXPERTISE TO HIGHLIGHT DEVELOPMENTS IN MATERIAL SCIENCE
THE HEAT Festival aims to showcase cutting-edge innovations in climate technology and material science.
Re-Right Design sought to create an impactful installation that embodied the festival’s themes of sustainability and environmental responsibility. However, the challenge lay in finding a material that was both visually striking and fully biodegradable to align with the festival’s values.
The team needed a partner with expertise in sustainable materials to bring their vision to life while demonstrating the power of collaboration in addressing global challenges.
THE SOLUTION
IDENTIFYING THE RIGHT MATERIALS TO SHOWCASE INNOVATION IN SCULPTURE FORM
Re-Right Design collaborated with Magical Mushroom Company® to produce a biodegradable sculpture inspired by tidal ecosystems.
Using mycelium—a natural material made from fungi roots—MMC crafted the components for the installation at their Esher plant. The mycelium was combined with recycled agricultural byproducts to create lightweight yet durable materials that are fully compostable and environmentally friendly.
The tidal-inspired sculpture served as a physical representation of the festival’s commitment to sustainability, fostering conversations around climate solutions and material innovation.

The installation received widespread acclaim at THE HEAT Festival, creating a space for attendees to engage with the potential of biodegradable materials in climate-tech applications.
Magical Mushroom Company®’s mycelium-based design demonstrated the versatility and beauty of sustainable materials, further positioning MMC as a leader in eco-friendly innovation.
This collaboration not only showcased the potential of mycelium but also reinforced the power of partnerships in driving impactful change. THE HEAT Festival continues to inspire and connect leaders in the climate-tech community, with its next edition set for September 2025.
